SKULDUGGERY OF THE WEEK: SWITCHEROO

A package containing a light switch that was reported stolen by a resident in the 3600 block of Harvard Avenue at 9:29 a.m. on March 28 was actually picked up by a good neighbor who thought the parcel’s owner was out of town.

UNIVERSITY PARK

24 Monday

A license plate looter stole the plates of a 2017 GMC Sierra in The Plaza at Preston Center parking garage before 11:48 p.m. on March 23.

Reported at 8:44 a.m.: A sneaky thief stole a 2022 GMC Sierra from a home on Northwest Parkway.

A would-be thief damaged — but did not succeed in stealing — a 2020 GMC Sierra before 8:49 a.m. on Marquette Street.

A man was arrested for drunk driving at about 8:15 p.m. on Centenary Drive.

25 Tuesday

A crook stole a small bag and $2,500 from a 2020 Chrysler Pacifica on Auburndale Avenue before 8:23 p.m.

28 Friday

A loveless looter stole a seven karat, white gold, Lovebright collection engagement ring at about 10:15 a.m. on Asbury Avenue.

Officers investigated a suspicious person and arrested a man on a warrant at about 7:14 p.m. on Southwestern Boulevard.

29 Saturday

Officers investigated a disturbance at il Bracco in The Plaza at Preston Center and arrested a 29-year-old man for trespassing and making a threat at about 9:25 p.m.

30 Sunday

Police responded to a possible robbery in progress at about 5:01 a.m. at CVS on Mockingbird Lane and arrested a 28-year-old man for aggravated robbery, possession of marijuana, and criminal trespass. Evidence included five bags of Skittles sour candy, and one Reese’s Easter Egg.

HIGHLAND PARK

24 Monday

Intruders apparently didn’t take anything from the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat in the 4200 block of Lomo Alto Drive that they broke into before 8:25 a.m., but they left behind a knife with a 12-inch blade and its holster.

A purse poacher broke into a BMW in the 4100 block of Lomo Alto Drive at about 2:15 p.m. and stole a Fendi bag containing two pairs of prescription glasses and $500 cash.

A sneaky shoplifter stole a gold bangle from Veronica Beard in Highland Park Village before 3:32 p.m.

A pedaling pilferer stole two Trek bicycles from a garage in the 4500 block of Fairway Avenue before 5 p.m.

A porch pirate stole a package containing a passport from outside a home in the 3600 block of Harvard Avenue before 4:30 p.m.

Reported at 10:33 p.m.: A tricky thief stole a Dodge pickup truck containing about $500 worth of tools from the 4200 block of Mockingbird Lane.

25 Tuesday

A criminal cruiser took off in a stolen 2021 GMC Sierra parked in the 4300 block of Livingston Avenue before 7:15 a.m., but left behind vehicle registration information and mail.

A 71-year-old man was arrested on a warrant at the intersection of Preston Road and Arcady Avenue at about 1:06 p.m.

A thief stole a 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500 containing about $4,000 worth of plumbing tools from the 3500 block of Crescent Avenue before 3 p.m.

The driver of an Audi Q5 that smelled suspiciously like marijuana took off down Preston Road after officers attempted to detain them at about 4:50 p.m. in Highland Park Village.

26 Wednesday

Reported at 8:22 a.m.: A two-wheeler thief stole a Giant bicycle and a Trek bicycle from a home in the 4500 block of Arcady Avenue before 8 a.m. on March 23.

28 Friday

A determined driver followed the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-class that didn’t stop after hitting his car in the 3800 block of Mockingbird Lane, but lost sight of the Mercedes after it sped down the Dallas North Tollway at a speed of over 100 mph before exiting on Northwest Highway.

An evil-doer took a Wicked Thumb e-bike with “Pabst Blue Ribbon” stickers and ape hanger handlebars, along with its charging cord, from a garage in the 4400 block of Lomo Alto Drive before 6:30 p.m.

29 Saturday

Reported at 4:35 p.m.: The owner of a Trek bicycle went inside his home in the 4500 block of Westway Avenue for 30 minutes, only to find when he came back outside that a different bike was in its spot.
