Belles Win Top Awards at Dance Nationals Competition

The Highland Belles were named national champions for their class size in jazz, kick, pom, and contemporary on March 2 at the Contest of Champions Dance Nationals in Orlando, Florida.

The Belles placed 13th overall out of the 63 teams from around the nation at the competition. The team was awarded $1,000 and the Spirit Award, and members received national champion jackets.

Cate Margolin was the Belles’ overall high scorer in solos and earned 15th place in her division out of 110 dancers.  

Soloist dancers were seniors Brigitte Brown, Cate Margolin, Alexandra Wright, and Mary Mathison; junior Kylie Barnes; and sophomores Sadie Nerenberg, Catherine Perhirin, and Solene Perhirin.

Liddy Brewer placed fourth overall in the improvisational Champion Dance Down. Brigitte Brown, Katherine Ditchman, Ashley Mowan, Alexandra Wright, and Catherine Perhirin also made it to the final 15 in the improvisational dance competition.

The Highland Belles are led by director Shannon Phillips, associate director Emily Sanchez, and assistant director Berkley Slover.
