SKULDUGGERY OF THE WEEK: NOT SO GRAND THEFT AUTO

The thief who stole a 2021 Audi Q5 from the 3400 block of Drexel Drive at about 6:06 a.m. on April 25 made it just one block before abandoning the vehicle, possibly because it got out of range of the key fob and came to a stop.

UNIVERSITY PARK

21 Monday

Identity theft was reported at 2:03 p.m. on Normandy Avenue.

22 Tuesday

A sneaky shoplifter stole less than $100 of property  from CVS on Mockingbird Lane at about 8:22 a.m.

A brazen burglar broke into a 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB on Preston Road at about 11:22 a.m.

24 Thursday

An unlocked vehicle was reported stolen at about 7:25 p.m. on Amherst Avenue.

25 Friday

A 29-year-old woman was arrested for driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana, and on multiple warrants at about 2:13 a.m. on Lovers Lane.

Reported at 2:09 p.m.: A greedy thief stole a 15-year-old boy’s wallet on Preston Road.

26 Saturday

A 19-year-old man was arrested for possession of marijuana after a traffic stop on Stanford Avenue at about 2:11 a.m.

A mischief maker caused between $100 and $750 worth of damage on Hanover Street before 11:48 a.m.

Someone caused between $2,500 and $30,000 of damage involving a window at a home in an undisclosed location at about 6:20 p.m.

27 Sunday

A thief struck in the 3000 block of Mockingbird Lane at about 8:15 a.m.

HIGHLAND PARK

21 Monday

A thief stole more than $2,300 worth of tools from the bed of a 2016 GMC pickup truck at about 9 a.m. in the 3800 block of Beverly Drive.

A 48-year-old man was arrested for stalking at about 11:30 a.m. in the 4700 block of Drexel Drive.

A picky thief stole a Prada purse, $950 cash, credit cards, a global entry card, gift cards, and car keys from a Mercedes-Benz sedan in the 4500 block of Highland Avenue before 2:19 p.m., then dumped the purse and its contents, except for between $200 and $250, near the creek off St Johns Drive.

22 Tuesday

A 47-year-old man was arrested on multiple warrants and for possession of a controlled substance at about 3:31 a.m. near the intersection of Armstrong Parkway and Lakeside Drive.

Officers made a warrant arrest at about 5:01 p.m. in the 4300 block of Armstrong Parkway.

A cheapskate who purchased a bronze Kneeling Angel Buddha statue on Facebook Marketplace from a resident in the 4200 block of Lomo Alto Drive took the statue without paying for it before 5:43 p.m.

23 Wednesday

A 20-year-old man was arrested on a warrant at about 5:21 a.m. near the intersection of Lakeside Drive and Lexington Avenue.

Reported at 1:24 p.m.: A malicious mischief-maker damaged both sides of a 2023 BMW X5 parked in the 4400 block of Edmondson Avenue. The driver’s and passenger’s side mirrors were broken, and a scuff was left on the driver’s side of the vehicle.

24 Thursday

A 30-year-old woman was arrested for unlicensed possession of a firearm by a felon and warrant probation violations at about 3:29 a.m. in the 5500 block of North Central Expressway.

A lucky looter stole a 2019 BMW M850 from a circle drive in the 3100 block of St Johns Drive before 1:52 p.m. after the car’s owner left it unlocked with his keys and wallet on the passenger seat. A pair of sunglasses had also been stolen out of another vehicle, a 2025 GMC Sierra 1500.

A reckless roadster hit a 2024 BMW M2 at a stoplight in the 3200 block of Mockingbird Lane, then drove off without leaving information.

25 Friday

A 32-year-old man was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia near the intersection of Versailles Avenue and Preston Road at about 7:03 a.m.

A license plate looter stole the rear plate from a Cadillac in the 5400 block of Fairfield Avenue before 9:30 a.m.

A 35-year-old man was arrested on a warrant at about 11:12 a.m. in the 4200 block of Beverly Drive.

26 Saturday

Reported at 7:53 a.m.: A tricky thief left a license plate from a stolen 2018 Land Rover Range Rover in front of a home in the 3700 block of Euclid Avenue, and took off with a plate from a 2023 Range Rover.

Reported at 12:32 p.m.: A valet key fob was stolen out of the ignition of an unlocked Porsche Macan parked in the 4300 block of Fairfax Avenue.

27 Sunday

A 33-year-old man was arrested for driving while intoxicated and evading arrest at about 2:50 a.m. in the 4200 block of Mockingbird Lane.
