No More Milkshakes: Highland Park Soda Fountain To Close in September
Perspective view from Knox and Travis looking east along Knox Street.
While plans for an office and retail tower at the Weir’s Furniture site at Travis and Knox streets show the Highland Park Soda Fountain building remaining, the fate of the historic business that operates there is much less certain.
Owners of the soda fountain plan to close next month, and don’t know whether they will return, according to media reports.
Demolition at the site and constructive of the 12-story building, scheduled to begin next year, will preclude the eatery from operating during the two years it could take to open what will be know as Weir Plaza.
Weir’s Furniture, which has other area locations, will also cease operations at the site during construction, but plans to return to a new space once the tower opens.
