Girls Soccer Team to Finally Play Ursuline

State 17

The Highland Park girls soccer team is coming off back-to-back appearances in the UIL state championship game. The Lady Scots won the title in 2012, and five of the team’s seniors committed to play soccer at the next level during Wednesday’s National Signing Day ceremony.

The Ursuline soccer team has won 23 straight TAPPS state championships, and four of the Bears’ seniors signed national letters of intent on Wednesday.

Although the schools are only 4 miles apart, nobody can remember when their soccer teams last met — if ever. But Highland Park will host Ursuline at 5 o’clock today in the Lady Scots’ final tuneup before they open district play Tuesday against Little Elm.

According to Tam Mott’s written history of Lady Scots Soccer, HP & Ursuline played each other in 1994 – 1998.

Forgive my ignorance, but who is Tam Mott?

By the way, when I said nobody could remember when they last played, that was after I posed the question, indirectly, to both head coaches.

    Dan,
Tam was the father of the Lady Scots first coach, Mindy Mott Cunningham. he attended all of the games, long after Mindy stopped coaching, until his health failed him. He also video recorded them for many years. He prepared a written summary of each year from 1978 to 2009 which summarized each season and included the result of every game & a list of the players for each year.
I did pick up on the way you phrased the comment about prior games, but the Plaid Report was more definitive that they had not played each other before. I just thought everyone would like to know the real history.

I remember seeing HP play Ursuline while my sister was on the team 95-97. I want to say the played twice during that time when one of Staubach’s daughter was playing for Ursuline. They played one of their games at Jesuit and I believe the other was during a tournament early in the season.
