Spieth Added to U.S. Presidents Cup Roster
United States team captain Fred Couples announced today Jesuit alum Jordan Spieth and Webb Simpson have been added to the Presidents Cup team.
“I’m just so happy I woke up this morning and it wasn’t a dream,” Spieth said via his Facebook page.
The Presidents Cup, a battle between the United States and the rest of the world, will be held Oct. 1-6 in Dublin, just outside of Columbus, Ohio.
Spieth will be the youngest player, and first PGA Tour rookie, to represent the United States in the Presidents Cup.
Spieth, who turned pro in December, won this year’s John Deere Classic and has eight top-10 finishes, second-most on the PGA Tour. He shot a final-round 62 on Monday to finish tied for fourth place at the Deutsche Bank Championship and put an exclamation point on his candidacy.
Spieth is 10th in the FedExCup, while Simpson, the 2012 U.S. Open champion, is 20th. He will be the second-youngest player in Presidents Cup history after Ryo Ishikawa, who was 18 when he played in the 2009 Presidents Cup.
Spieth and Simpson will join Tiger Woods, Brandt Snedeker, Phil Mickelson, Matt Kuchar, Jason Dufner, Keegan Bradley, Steve Stricker, Bill Haas, Hunter Mahan, and Zach Johnson on the roster.
