Dramatic Wins For Highland Park
Three Highland Park teams showed a flair for the dramatic in grabbing big victories last night.
In the soccer playoffs, the Scots and Lady Scots both pulled out one-goal wins in an area-round doubleheader at Carrollton’s Standridge Stadium.
The Lady Scots (16-2-3) fended off McKinney North, 2-1, as Ellen Heighten scored the game-winner in the 73rd minute. Highland Park faces Frisco Centennial at 6 p.m. Friday at Wildcat-Ram Stadium in Lake Highlands in the sectionals.
The Scots (10-6-5) knocked off Frisco, 1-0, in overtime, in the nightcap. Sophomore Sam Hayward scored his second game-winner in as many contests in the first overtime. Highland Park faces McKinney at 7:15 p.m. Friday at Plano’s Clark Stadium.
Also, the Scots baseball team took sole possession of first place in the District 10-4A standings when Ben McElroy belted a walk-off home run to lift Highland Park (21-2, 6-0) to a 6-5 comeback win over Rockwall-Heath. The Scots play at McKinney at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Also, the D1 boys lacrosse team beat Plano West last night, 12-9. Game was neck and neck until the end. The team takes on Jesuit at 7:30 pm on Friday at Jesuit.
