Jamie Ward & Luke Powell
Jamie Renee Ward and Luke Hutcheson Powell exchanged wedding vows on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at the First Baptist Church in Longview, Texas. Their ceremony was officiated by Dr. Ken Hall, senior vice president of Baylor University, a family friend of both the bride’s and the groom’s families, and the Rev. Bruce Wells, the bride’s pastor since birth. The bride entered the church to strains of “Two Trumpet Concerto” by Vivaldi, played by two trumpeters, and an organist. Seating of the house party, seating of the family, and the processional was by the Longview String Quartet and harp. Selections included “Ave Maria” by Bach/ Gounod, on violin and harp, and “Wachet Auf” by Bach for the processional. Soloist Walt Tehan sang “In This Very Room” with the accompaniment of the Longview Strings and harp for the seating of the parents and grandparents. Following the ceremony, the couple, their families, and friends enjoyed a reception of dining and dancing at the Pinecrest Country Club.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Randall Scott Ward of Longview. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Crutcher of Stanwood, Wash.; Mr. Jack Ward of Longview; and Mrs. Sharon Camp of Kilgore, Texas.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Loyd W. Powell Jr. of Highland Park. He is the grandson of Rose Ella Hutcheson and the late Dr. Z.W. Hutcheson Jr. of Amarillo, Texas, and the late Mr.and Mrs. Loyd W. Powell Sr. of Dallas.
The bride was given in marriage by her parents and escorted down the aisle on the arm of her father. She chose a trumpet-shaped Lazaro gown of ivory silk faced satin with hand-beading and an embroidered tulle bodice with silver accents. Her dress featured a sweetheart neckline with a platinum silk satin ribbon at the waist, and a trumpet skirt. The chapel-length veil, trimmed with lace and embellished with crystals, was hand-stitched by Jamie’s maternal grandmother. Jamie also wore diamond-and-pearl earrings, a wedding gift from the groom. She completed her look with white satin Manolo Blahnik shoes and a bridal bouquet of white phalaenopsis orchids and white roses.
The bride’s younger sisters — Ashley Ward, Allison Ward, and Kristen Ward — attended her as maids of honor. Bridesmaids were Abigail Powell, sister of the groom; Ashley Crutchfield; Justine Hafner; Katie Wells; Jessica Smiley; Ashley Entz; Randelyn Carpenter; Courtney Brice; and Dena Busse. Members of the house party included Sarianne Crutcher, Brianne Crutcher, Bailee Crowder, Erica Grzebielucna, Jessy Bookbinder, Kelly Glavin, and Heather Holland. Scripture readers were Courtney Brice and Justin Zych. Margo and Charlotte Cone were flower girls.
Best men were Gideon and Caleb Powell, the groom’s brothers, and Bailey Hunt, his childhood friend. Groomsmen included Ross Davis, Ben Halloran, Mohannad Ibrahim, Ryan Jordon, Cham King, Taylor Tarr, Tyler Bravin, Justin Zych, and Brandon Perella.
Ushers were Barrett Cone, Henry Hutcheson, Christopher Ward, Nick Rocco, Tyler Trevino, Kevin Beach, Wes Woods, and Bobby Draughn. The ring bearer was Clay Kohelffel.
The bride is a 2008 graduate of Christian Heritage School in Longview. In 2012, she graduated from Baylor University.
The groom is a 2008 graduate of Highland Park High School. He is a 2012 graduate of Baylor University. Luke is a landman for Cholla Petroleum in Midland, Texas.
Following their wedding trip to Tahiti and Bora Bora, in French Polynesia, the couple have made their home in Midland.
