Scheffler Caps Year With Bahamas Title

A golf tournament notable for Tiger Woods’ return to PGA Tour action ended with Scottie Scheffler’s return to the top of the leaderboard.

The former Highland Park standout won the Hero World Challenge event on Sunday in the Bahamas, finishing three shots ahead of runner-up Sepp Straka.

The victory was his first since the Players Championship in March, and third this season. It caps a phenomenal year for Scheffler, who remains the top-ranked golfer in the world.

Remarkably, he made the cut in all 25 of his events this season and placed in the top 10 in 19 of them. He earned more than $21 million in prize money. And that doesn’t count his role on the American team in the Ryder Cup.

Along the way, Scheffler tied for fifth place in May at the AT&T Byron Nelson in McKinney, which also marked his 100th career PGA Tour appearance.

He will likely return to action in January when the Tour begins its annual winter swing with The Sentry in Hawaii.
