Popular Pizza Chain Comes To Snider Plaza

Rejoice, fans of Zalat Pizza!  The long-awaited University Park location opens for business in Snider Plaza Tuesday, July 26. This is the 18th DFW location of the popular takeout pizza joint, and the first one in the Park Cities.

The storefront is on the corner of Hillcrest Avenue and Westminster, facing Hillcrest, and will have limited seating inside the restaurant.  There are Zalat-designated parking spaces behind the restaurant and several spots that are open-to-the-public in front as well.

General Manager Adra Propps is delighted to lead the University Park location of Zalat Pizza.  She has extended family in University Park, including the Toon family, whose precious daughter is the namesake for the Elizabeth Toon Charities, an organization that grants money to area non-profits whose programmatic work support children in need. “I’m very happy to be here in University Park,” Adra told me when I popped my head in the store for a quick look.

Zalat is recognized for using fresh, premium ingredients on its classic and creative pizzas.  Some of the favorite classics are the Pepperoni Masterclass, with a double serving of 100% beef pepperoni, oregano, cracked black pepper, and chopped garlic, and its simple cheese pizza. They also create some pretty crazy flavors such as Nashville Hot Chicken and pickles, Pho Shizzle, Elote, The Sweet Revenge, Pineapple Express, and more. And, while one pizza restaurant in Texas shames people for requesting Ranch dressing in which to dip their pizza, Zalat embraces it and even created their own trademarked Sirancha™ sauce, a fiery combination of Ranch dressing and sriracha sauce.  It’s addictive.

Many Zealots, as fans of the brand are called, have been enjoying take out pies from Zalat’s original location on Fitzhugh Avenue since 2015 when Khanh Nguyen opened a pizza joint next to his excellent Vietnamese restaurant, DaLat. Since then, Zalat has been recognized by top restaurant industry publications with honors including being named a 2021 “Hot Concept” by Nation’s Restaurant News.

By my count, there are exactly three pizza restaurants in University Park: Pizza Hut (which, sorry, I don’t count that as a restaurant), Olivella’s which is a great sit-down restaurant that also does take-out, and now, Zalat.

Sure, you can also find pizza at Amore or Penne Pommodoro, but Zalat is completely dedicated to pizza, and it shows. It’s excellent and it travels very well. I’ve been on record for years now saying Zalat is the best take-out pizza in North Texas, and I stand by that statement.

Order online at www.zalatpizza.com. Zalat Snider Plaza opens Tuesday, July 26 at 11 a.m.  Regular hours will be Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. until midnight, Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. til 4 a.m., and Sunday 11 a.m. til 10 p.m.
