Reading Rally Kicks Off at Providence
Students at Providence Christian School kicked off Operation Reading Rally on Jan. 15. The program lasts for four weeks and raises scholarship money. Students dressed in military-inspired clothes for the kickoff pep rally and participated in an obstacle course.
Classes Three and Four must read 3,500 minutes to reach “gold level.” They can read by themselves or listen to a parent, but it must be from a work of literature or the Bible. In fact, families are encouraged to read The Chronicles of Narnia series together.
“Reading fine literature is one of our school’s tenets,” headmaster Tony Jeffrey said. “Therefore, we are pleased that students and their families choose to spend time reading excellent books together, thus ensuring a successful fundraiser.”
Author Jonathan Rogers will also hold a session for parents at the campus on why stories are beneficial to a child’s character. The event will take place at 8 a.m. on Feb. 2 and is open to the public.
