Booker T. Washington Opens Recording and Production Studio

Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts opened its new state of the art recording and production studio on Oct. 16.

The studio was created with the help of a $1.7 million capital campaign that began with the Advisory Board and the 2018 Crystal Charity Ball.

The studio was designed by Russ Berger Design Group. It will allow the student to look into the production side of the industry and give tools, programming, and knowledge they will be able to take with them into their college and professional careers.

“The arts magnet has long been a pacesetter at honing the skills of talented young people to prepare them for success in their chosen artistic career,” said Dallas Independent School District superintendent Michael Hinojosa. “ The new recording and production studio represents a giant leap forward in our arts education program.”

The AWS 924 is an analog-digital recording console and is considered the centerpiece of the studio. Digital Resources Inc., a Southlake based technology solutions company, installed the AWS 924. Their design helps give a professional and educational experience.

The studio will include a control room that has a camera placed above the SSL board and can be broadcast to the classroom. The equipment also has a mobile studio cart that can be taken all over the school and broadcast back to the studio.

“The new production studio at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts is a game-changer for the school,” said Dr. Scott Rudes, Booker T. Washington principal. “We now have a level playing field for all of our students to perform and record for scholarships and competitions. ”

“In addition, this provides us with a new course of study for students who are interested in the profession.  We are very excited about the possibilities that this studio will give our students.”
