Really — during spring break? I’m sure a lot of kids will be there. Not.

According to the HPISD website, that day is designated a staff development day. Spring Break is March 15-20.

That sucks for families like mine that already made plans to be out of town on vacation.

Unless you are going for the attendance record, I think with advance warning to teachers that it won’t be a big deal to continue with your vacation plans.

That’s why HPISD tries damn hard not to have a snow day, attendence on make-up days is very low.

We learned that you get one excused absence per year which I didn’t really understand what that meant til I dug in a bit…and this is for high school. If the principal had not excused it – all tests, quizs and homework would have been a zero for the day my child was out. The principal was really nice about it and he said early notice and honesty is extremely important. Until this situation came up — I never knew how strict the policy is. Maybe I just play by the rules too much – I just didn’t want him to be penalized.
