Scots Chasing District Title on Diamond
With less than two weeks remaining in the regular season, Highland Park is squarely in the mix for a District 12-5A baseball title.
The Scots (16-9, 8-2) are tied with Frisco Reedy for second place, one game back of first-place Frisco Wakeland, in the league standings with four games left to play. HP split with both teams during their meetings.
The Scots had an eight-game winning streak snapped by Reedy during a 4-0 loss on Friday, marking just the second time all season they had been shut out. However, they bounced back with a 3-2 nondistrict victory over Anna the next day.
HP has paired its typically strong defense and pitching — with a staff led by Isaac Hutchinson and Ty Moorhead — with resurgent hitting. The Scots have erupted for nine or more runs six times in the past month.
Wakeland and Reedy still have two matchups to be played against one another, so at least one victory by the Lions over their crosstown rival would open the door for HP to claim at least a share of the crown.
Of course, the Scots still need to take care of their remaining business, including two games against Carrollton Creekview this week followed by back-to-back meetings with Frisco Lone Star to wrap up the regular season.
HP needs just one more victory to clinch a spot in the upcoming 5A Division I playoffs, which will begin on May 1.
