HP Town Council Designates R. Gerald Turner Day
The Highland Park Town Council met on Tuesday where Mayor Will C. Beecherl presented a proclamation honoring Dr. R. Gerald Turner’s career at SMU and the contributions he and his wife, Gail O. Turner, have made to the community.
The Town of Highland Park recognized the collaborative work between SMU and its president, who has served since 1995 to support the University, Highland Park, and communities across North Texas. Highland Park expressed its gratitude to Dr. Turner for his contributions to the field of higher education and to the community.
The Town also recognized Mrs. Gail O. Turner for her generous dedication of time and talents to philanthropic causes that benefit communities throughout Highland Park and Dallas.
The Mayor proclaimed May 31, 2025 as R. Gerald Turner and Gail O. Turner Day.
On June 1, 2025, Dr. Turner will transition to the position of SMU president emeritus, in which he will continue to contribute to the advancement of the University. Mayor Beecherl encouraged residents to commend Dr. Turner on his esteemed tenure at SMU.
