Haag, HP Harriers Claim First Team Crown
The Highland Park boys topped a strong field at the Gerald Richey Invitational cross country meet on Sept. 7 in Grand Prairie.
The Scots had six runners finish in the top 13 overall, led by a runner-up showing by Spencer Haag with a time of 16 minutes, 6 seconds over the course at Lynn Creek Park — the same site as the Class 5A Region II meet in late October.
Bennett Blevins placed fourth for HP, which won its first team championship of the season. Akash Shah led a contingent of four consecutive Scots in positions 10 through 13, followed by teammates Luke Hall, Jacob Baumgartner, and Beau Stewart.
Meanwhile, the HP girls were second behind Prosper in the team standings at the Boyd Bronco Stampede on Saturday in McKinney.
Finley Heckler paced three athletes inside the top 10 individually for the Lady Scots, crossing the line third in a time of 18:41. Ryan Sontag was right behind in third, and HP’s Paisley Bassett came in seventh.
The Lady Scots will return to Myers Park on Sept. 14, along with the HP boys, to compete in the Lovejoy Fall Festival.
