Lady Scots Race to Victory in Waxahachie

Highland Park continued its fast start to the girls cross country season with a second consecutive team title on Saturday.

The Lady Scots won the elite varsity division of the Woodhouse Invitational in Waxahachie with two individual runners inside the top 10 finishers over the 5-kilometer course at Lakeview Camp. Maddie Heckler came in sixth place for HP in 18 minutes, 23 seconds, while Kayla Dickerson was ninth.

Meanwhile, the HP boys started their 2023 campaign with a strong performance at the Hawk Invitational night race on Aug. 18 in Carrollton.

The Scots placed third in the team standings in the elite varsity division, paced by a top-10 showing from senior William Jaudes. Also finishing in the top 20 were Luke Smith, Bennett Blevins, Jacob Baumgartner, and Andrew Stewart.

Next up, the girls will compete at the Greenhill Six-Mile Relay on Aug. 26 at Norbuck Park, while the boys will head to a meet in Southlake.
