Chapman Leads HP Boys at Regional Meet

Highland Park will send its entire boys gymnastics team, as well as four girls, to state after a strong showing at the Region I meet.

The Scots finished second in the boys team standings at regionals, which concluded on Friday at HP. The state meet will be April 27-29 in College Station.

HP’s Austin Chapman won the regional all-around title along with three individual events — floor exercise, vault, and rings.

Defending all-around state champion Clayton Staunton, who missed most of the season with an injury, was second on pommel horse. William Benz was the runner-up on vault.

In girls action, Lily Ford placed fifth in the all-around standings, while three other teammates were in the top 10 — Ana Simpson, Erin Bollinger, and Margaret Maambo.
