HPISD Trustees Hire Search Firm For Next Superintendent

The Highland Park ISD board of trustees Nov. 8 approved a $29,900 contract with the search firm Hazard, Young, Attea, and Associates (HYA) to conduct the search process for the district’s next superintendent.

Dr. Tom Trigg, the district’s eighth superintendent since 1914, announced at the Oct. 11 school board meeting that he will resign effective at the end of the 2022-2023 school year. He’s served in that role since 2015.

Members of the board interviewed firms Nov. 1 and 2.

“I think the things that appealed to us (were) their deep experience in the field, they’re national in scope, they’ve done over 1,400 of these searches for districts around the country, which was consistent with where we believe our search will go, they had among the most extensive community engagement process(es)…of any that we saw, ” trustee Doug Woodward said of the choice of HYA.

Trustees will meet with HYA executives the week of Nov. 14 to develop a comprehensive timeline outlining the search process and opportunities for community input into the search for a new superintendent for the district.

“It is incredibly important that our efforts and this process ensure strong community involvement,” Board President Tom Sharpe said. “HYA has a track record of offering a robust and established process for gathering stakeholder input and for customizing their work to meet our needs. We also believe HYA has the greatest ability to leverage an extensive network across the country, offering us the broadest reach for our candidate search.”

The district set up a webpage with information about the search.
