Parish Hits the Road for Next Big Game
For many teams, a victory over perennial powerhouse Aledo would be a season-defining achievement. But for Parish Episcopal, it was the first test in a nondistrict gauntlet that ranks with the most challenging schedules of any team in the state — private or public.
Parish’s 24-17 win on Friday at Snyder Stadium enabled the three-time defending TAPPS 6A state champions to showcase their strength against a 10-time champion in the UIL ranks.
But there won’t be much time to celebrate. The Panthers must travel to meet longtime SPC power Houston Episcopal on Sept. 2, and the next week will head south again for a showdown with Austin LBJ — the only team to defeat Parish last season.
After that, the Panthers will return home for a high-profile clash with defending Class 5A Division II state champion South Oak Cliff, followed by a matchup with last year’s unbeaten 4A Division II champ, China Spring.
In all, Parish’s four public-school opponents on the schedule combined for a 58-3 record last year, and two won UIL state titles. Whether the Panthers are still undefeated by the time TAPPS district play begins on Oct. 7 against Bishop Lynch, they certainly will be battle tested.
