Dallas ISD Seeking Input On Clear Backpack Policy Option

In a post that was quickly taken down from the Dallas ISD website, it was stated that clear backpacks will be required for all Dallas ISD campuses for the 2022-2023 academic year.

This change has yet to be approved by district officials, reported by the Dallas Morning News, so the policy could shift in the meantime. The publication also reported that the district does not have an active clear backpack policy, but “that very well could shift in the coming weeks as our senior leaders and others look at what would be best for the upcoming school year,” said district spokesperson Robyn Harris.

The now-deleted post said the change to clear backpacks would be “one of the district’s measures to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.”

If implemented, the district will provide a clear backpack to each student prior to the start of the school year, and students will be allowed to carry a 5.5 by 8.5-inch non-clear pouch for personal items.

The district is seeking input from the community about the potential measure until July 14. Take the survey here.
