Crews Respond To Fire at Duplex In UP

Crews responded to a fire at a duplex in the 3600 block of McFarlin Boulevard in University Park overnight Monday.

Crews were called to the scene around 1 a.m. and, when they arrived, saw flames over the garage of one of the units, city officials say.

University Park director of communications and marketing Steve Mace said no one was home on either side of the duplex at the time, but residents of nearby duplexes and homes were evacuated as a precaution.

Mace added that damage remained contained to the duplex, though, and didn’t spread to nearby homes.

Crews from the University Park Fire Department, Highland Park Department of Public Safety, and Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to the fire and worked on hot spots until 6:45 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
