Piehler Earns No. 500 for Surging Scots
It seems fitting that longtime Highland Park boys basketball coach David Piehler earned his 500th career victory on a night the Scots clinched another district title.
Both milestones came on Friday, when HP surged past Carrollton Newman Smith 83-69 for its 12th consecutive win in District 11-5A play, and the sixth straight by a double-digit margin. The Scots (22-9, 12-1) will close out the regular season on Tuesday at Conrad before opening the Class 5A Region II playoffs next week.
The career win total includes those from Piehler’s 13-year stint with the Scots, as well as his prior coaching stops at Plano West and Rockwall. During his playing days, Piehler was a standout at SMU.
Worthey Wiles paced HP with 24 points against the Trojans, while Reilly Seebold added 22 and Prince Dorbah had 10.
