SKULDUGGERY OF THE WEEK: HANGRY

Sometimes you really need beef jerky and doughnuts, and around 6:30 p.m. Aug. 13 a “customer” at a Chevron gas station in the 8400 block of Preston Road needed the unlikely duo so badly that he or she stole the grub, valued at $10, and a 2012 red Toyota Corolla getaway car, valued at $5,000.

HIGHLAND PARK

15 Wednesday

A resident in the 3600 block of Beverly Drive either had a complete stranger or a “vindictive” ex-husband rummage through and steal $10 in cash from her 2012 blue Lexus ES350 parked overnight from 4 p.m. Aug. 14 and 9:30 a.m. the following day.

17 Friday

A brown Cole Hahn briefcase and a $1,500 Lenovo laptop were stolen from an unlocked white Lexus LX570 parked overnight in the circular driveway of a home in the 4300 block of Westway Avenue. The homeowners night nanny noted that around 1 a.m. she said the lights to the Lexus come on.

19 Sunday

A homeowner in the 4300 block of Bourdeaux AVE isn’t sure who stole his wife’s diamond earrings, but a new AC repairman from a company the couple had used before was mentioned in a police report. The single stud, 5-carat diamond earrings mounted in a platinum setting, valued at $150,000 and not covered by insurance, was last seen in jewelry dish in the master bathroom, and the lady-of-the-house noticed them missing the evening of Aug. 18, her husband reported to police at 5:28 p.m. the following day. The man-of-the-house did say that “the handyman is a regular employee of a close friend, and he does not suspect him of the theft.”

UNIVERSITY PARK

13 Monday

A homeowner in the 4400 block of Emerson Avenue returned home from a five-day vacation from Aug. 8 to Aug. 12 to find about $21,400 of jewelry missing, she reported to police around 10:40 a.m.

14 Tuesday

A 29-year-old Dallas man laying on atop a 2005 black Cadillac and drinking beer in the 4400 block of Lovers Lane was arrested around 8:15 a.m. on suspicion of public intoxication.

Just in time for a late breakfast, just over $8,400 in kitchen appliances were stolen from a home in the 3600 block of Bryn Mawr Drive.

15 Wednesday

Around 10:40 a.m., a 19-year-old Dallas man was arrested on suspicion of assault causing bodily injury at a job site in the 3500 block of Hanover Street.

A Graco spray painter, valued at $1,000, was stolen sometime between 2 and 4:45 p.m. from a home in the 3400 block of McFarlin Boulevard.

16 Thursday

Around 1:25 p.m., $50 shirt from Adaline’s in the 4400 block of Lovers Lane was stolen.

17 Friday

Sometime between midnight and 6:30 a.m., an $800 purse, $100 wallet, and $2,035 in cash were stolen from a home in the 6600 block of Golf Drive.

Stolen before 8 a.m.: an unlocked 2018 white Jaguar E-Pace, valued at $45,000, from a home in the 4500 block of Glenwick Lane.

An obstetrics-gynecology specialist in the 3200 block of Colgate Avenue reported to police around 2:14 p.m. that he was receiving threatening texts from a former patient.

18 Saturday

Three unlocked vehicles in the 4400 block of Larchmont Avenue were broken into overnight: A $3,000 wallet was stolen from the console of a 2015 white GMC Yukon LL; a $600 pistol from a 2014 white Chevrolet Tahoe; and $300 worth of unnamed items from a 2013 gold Infiniti Qx5.
