Checks Presented to Local Charities from KAPPA Tablescapes
The Dallas Alumnae Association of Kappa Kappa Gamma recently presented checks to the beneficiaries of their annual fundraiser, Kappa Tablescapes. Co-chairs Beth Dike and Mary Hubbard presented a record-breaking $230,000 to representatives of local charities Akola Project, Camp Summit, Cristo Rey Dallas College Prep, Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center, Genesis Women’s Shelter and Support, Seniors’ Pet Assistance Network, Town North YMCA, Visiting Nurse Association (Meals on Wheels) and the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation.
“Mary and I are so honored to have been part of this event,” states Kappa Tablescapes 2017 co-chair Beth Dike. “The beneficiary organizations work tirelessly on behalf of our community, and we are thrilled to present these checks to further their excellent work.”
“We are grateful to receive funding for our children’s program from the women of Kappa Kappa Gamma,” shared Jan Langbein, CEO of Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support. “We know that half of all girls who witness abuse as children will go on to find abusive partners as adults, and forty percent of boys who witness abuse will go on to perpetuate abuse as men. Thanks to this grant, we can intervene and break the cycle of violence, providing the counseling, support and education that allow kids to be kids, and set them up for the abuse-free futures they deserve. What Kappa Kappa Gamma does for Genesis and other agencies in the area creates a safer, healthier community for us all, and we couldn’t be more proud of our partnership.”
The occasion featured a sold-out luncheon, sponsored by Central Market, featuring celebrity interior designer Mark D. Sikes as the keynote speaker. Kappa Tablescapes by Candlelight, sponsored by Highland Park Village, kicked off the annual event.
A highlight of the event was the recognition of Pat McCall as the 2017 Platinum Key Honoree. Pat is an accomplished civic leader, holding numerous leadership positions in both Fort Worth and Dallas. Pat attended SMU where she was initiated into the Gamma Phi chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma in 1955. She was previously honored by Kappa Kappa Gamma with the Camilla Beall Outstanding Fort Worth Alumnae Award. Pat and her husband, Clyde, serve on the SMU President’s Associates and the Chancellor’s Councils of both Texas Christian University and Texas Tech University.
“Pat is a loyal and distinguished alumna of Kappa Kappa Gamma, and were so pleased to be able to shine a spotlight on her support of important organizations in our community and service to the entire north Texas region,” states Kappa Tablescapes 2017 co-chair Mary Hubbard.
Plans are underway for this year’s Kappa Tablescapes fundraiser at Dallas Country Club. Co-Chairs Sandy Ammons, Peggy Meyer and Kris Terry have announced Oct. 15 and 16 as the dates for the 2018 event.
