HPHS Academic Decathlon Team Wins Regionals
Highland Park High School’s Academic Decathlon team is headed to the state finals after winning the Region 10 competition Jan. 21. The Scots scored 52,545 points, breaking the previous record set by Katy Taylor High School in 2000. They will now look to defend their 2016 State Title on Feb. 22-24 in El Paso.
Overall medal winners from the Region 10 meet included:
Honor Division:
Michael Xie – first place overall with a score of 9,366.0 points
Rachel Korn – third place overall with a score of 9,033.0 points
Scholastic Division:
Brooke Yung – first place overall with a score of 8,832.0 points
Matthew Forbes – second place overall with a score of 8,389.0 points
Jasmyne Rodriguez – third place overall with a score of 8,207.0 points
Varsity Division:
Wyatt Hill – first place overall with a score of 8,750.0 points
Abby Warren – second place overall with a score of 8,175.0 points
In Super Quiz Relay, HP placed first with 34 out of 36 questions answered correctly.
