Where are the Villains in HP?

shoplifting copyWhere have all the conmen gone? And where are all the frauds? Where’s the street-wise hoodlum, to fight the moralizing laws? (Just hum that to Bonnie Tyler’s “I Need a Hero.”)

If you’ve read our latest police reports, you’ll notice a lack of crime in the Highland Park section (aside from our weekly skulduggery). Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining about the lack of crime reports from HP, but it does seem mighty fishy.

Which begs the questions: have the HPPD being doing such a fabulous job in keeping the streets clean from crime — at least for the week? Or are crooks getting craftier with their crimes?

Thoughts anyone?

I would think either that the crime reporting system is broken, or that the officers are “standing down” and like DPD officers, would rather “look the other way” than stop a criminal.

This is because if they stop a criminal, and a fight ensues, and they taze, fight, club, or shoot the criminal, then they and their family will be excoriated in the national media, they will lose their jobs, pensions, etc.; and they will have threats made against them and their spouses/children.

You see, with today’s climate of anti-police rhetoric, it makes absolutely no sense for an officer to stop or apprehend a criminal any more. Why would it?

If I were a cop, and I received a call about a bank robbery in progress on Mockingbird, I would drive very, very slowly to the bank, arriving maybe 12-14 minutes after the call.

This way, by the time I arrived, the criminals would have had plenty of time to escape, and there would be no “confrontation” for bystanders to film, and I could simply close out the report, and then go to Starbucks for a free Grande Carmel Macchiato, and hang out for a while.

It’s much better than being on national news for the next 21 days, trust me.
