Blue Wave Looks for Postseason Splash
Highland Park will begin the postseason with the District 9-6A swimming meet on Friday at Loos Natatorium.
While the top swimmers in each event will qualify for the Class 6A Region III meet on Feb. 5-6 in Rockwall. That’s where the top athletes to advance to the state meet on Feb. 19-20 in Austin.
But first thing’s first for the Blue Wave, and that means tuning up at the district meet against a field that includes swimmers from Carrollton R.L. Turner, Skyline, Sunset, W.T. White, Irving, Irving MacArthur, Irving Nimitz, and Jesuit (boys only).
The HP boys represent the school’s best hope of reaching state this season, led by two pairs of siblings — Jasper and Felix Van Cauwelaert and Tommy and Robby King. The Van Cauwelaerts each competed at the state meet last year as part of a 400 freestyle relay team.
