SMU’s Women’s Symposium is celebrating its 50th Anniversary on March 4. The symposium features events throughout the day in SMU’s Hughes-Trigg Student Center.

The keynote speaker for the luncheon is Lilly Ledbetter. Ledbetter helped advocate for gender wage equality after spending 19 years at Goodyear. An anonymous note alerted her that she made 40 percent less than her male coworkers. In 2009 she became the namesake of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.

“Lilly Ledbetter represents women using their voices to create change,” says Karen Click, director of SMU’s Women and LBGT Center. “We’ve been inspired by that for 50 years and hope that we continue, as women, to examine our voices and use them.”

Other special events throughout the day include a community resource fair, book signing, and community awards reception.
