Mark Your Calendars For ‘UP With Reading’
Not to be confused with the “Listen UP summer author series” for adults, University Park Public Library is ready to launch their summer program, “UP with Reading” for kids. The theme this year is “Be a Superhero,” which means each kiddo participating will get a superhero cutout to decorate and put on display in the library. Oh, and you’ll get a sticker for your cutout. Sounds awesome.
The series will kick off in conjunction with the Children’s Fishing Derby on June 7. Here’s the full schedule below. We’ll post reminders as each event draws near:
6/11 Magician Kent Cummins
6/18 Dallas Children’s Theater workshop
6/25 Drummer/Storyteller Leo Hassan
7/9 Highland Park Black Belt Academy
7/16 Storyteller Dorayne Breedlove
7/23 Storyteller Solina Marquis
7/30 Pipadilly, Magic, Juggling and Music
Register at the Fishing Derby or online. All programs start at 1:30 p.m. and are sponsored by Briggs-Freeman, JD’s Chippery, and SMU.
Did I mention the prizes? Kids who read 10 hours get a yard sign, while kids who read 50 hours get a book. The HPISD school whose students read the most collective hours get the “Readers Cup” trophy. Last year, Hyer took home the prize with a record number of readers.
