Local Teens Earned National Merit Scholarships
Four Park Cities residents were announced today as winners of the latest round of college-sponsored National Merit Scholarships.
From Highland Park High School, Theodore Palles has listed engineering as his probable career field, while Chloe Jewell Sarfatis plans to study medicine. Both were given scholarships by the University of Oklahoma.
A pair of ESD students from the Park Cities also earned scholarships. Kelsey Schmitt (University of Chicago) has listed surgical medicine as her career of choice, and Sophie Sisson (Northwestern University) intends to study civil engineering.
The scholarships are for between $500 and $2,000. A final announcement of winners in July will bring the scholarship total nationwide to more than $35 million among 190 colleges and universities.
