Tonight at 7 p.m., DeGolyer Elementary will unveil a new “buddy bench,” made possible by a former DeGolyer family. Marc and Kyle Talbert, both former students, wanted a way to honor the memory their parents, Bodie and Henry Talbert. The student council then came up with the idea for the bench, where students can find a friend or someone to play with.

“We teach our students to respect and be kind to one another and the buddy bench will further our mission to provide a tool for our students to use for making friends and reaching out to others,” principal Tara Mays said in a statement.

The bench incorporates the original mascot, the Pilot, and the current mascot, the Dolphin, and was built by a DeGolyer parent. It will be placed in the playground area for students to use.
