Police Report: May 5 to May 12


SKULDUGGERY OF THE WEEK: Supermarket Creep

At 3 p.m. on May 7, a manager at Whole Foods Market at Preston Forest Shopping Center alerted police that a serial pickpocket had returned to the store, where he previously had been spotted trying to look inside women’s purses and wallets. When confronted by an officer who saw a women’s wallet sticking out of his left pocket, the thief began to resist. After he was taken into custody, the $99 wallet containing $150 worth of gift cards was returned to its owner. Darrell Michael Smith, 49, was arrested on a theft charge.


5 MONDAY
Between 3 and 5 p.m., a thief stole a $400 iPhone 5 and a $300 iPad Mini from the backseat of an unlocked silver car at Preston Center. Between 8:15 a.m. and 8:30 p.m., a thief stole a $50 leaf blower from a house in the 4600 block of Alta Vista Lane.

6 TUESDAY
Between 11 a.m. on May 5 and 3 a.m. on May 6, a burglar broke into a house in the 4000 block of Beechwood Lane and stole a stamp collection valued at $7,000, along with a $1,200 Dell laptop computer, a green 1997 Oldsmobile sedan valued at $1,000, two Remington shotguns with a combined value of $800, and a Mavado men’s watch.

Between 9 p.m. on May 5 and 7 a.m. on May 6, a burglar broke into a black 2009 Mercury SUV at an apartment complex in the 7400 block of West Northwest Highway and stole a $350 JBL subwoofer and a $350 JBL amplifier.

Between 8 and 8:50 p.m., a vandal fired a gun at cars in the 8400 block of Ridgelea Street. The resulting bullet holes caused damage to a white 1998 Toyota sedan, a black 2004 Lexus sedan, and a Dallas police car.

7 WEDNESDAY
Between 11:30 p.m. on May 6 and 7 a.m. on May 7, a thief entered two unlocked cars in a driveway in the 11000 block of Edgemere Road and stole a package of 10 cigarettes, valued at $3. The vehicles included a white 2000 Toyota hatchback and a white 2006 Chevrolet SUV.

At 7:44 p.m., a shoplifter stole $602 worth of clothing, fragrances, and sunglasses from Macy’s at NorthPark Center. Miguel Hernandez, 20, was arrested on a theft charge and two charges of possession of narcotics.

At 8 p.m., a shoplifter stole $170 worth of jewelry, $134 worth of clothing, a $46 men’s wallet, and a $5 gift bag from Macy’s at NorthPark Center. Iris Ivonn Rodriguez-Perez, 21, was arrested on a theft charge.

8 THURSDAY
At 11:55 a.m., two shoplifters stole a combined $2,375 worth of merchandise from Macy’s at NorthPark Center. Stolen items include 47 items of clothing worth $1,276, two pairs of shoes worth $474, and about $675 worth of accessories. The pair concealed the items in a purse and a baby stroller. Jessica Eustolia Urena, 26, and Paola Lilisbeth Urena, 23, each were arrested on a theft charge.

Between noon and 3 p.m., a burglar broke into a blue 2006 Kia sedan at Preston Center and stole a $500 radar detector, a $450 Pioneer stereo, a $300 Walther PK380 pistol with eight rounds of ammunition, and a $100 battery charger.

Between 1:30 and 4:30 p.m., a burglar broke into a white 2004 Chevrolet SUV at NorthPark Center and stole three pairs of shoes with a combined value of $1,500, along with a $600 Pioneer radio, a $300 Garmin GPS unit, and a $100 radar detector.

At 5 p.m., a shoplifter stole three wallets from the Kate Spade store at NorthPark Center. When approached by security personnel, the thief returned the wallets but flashed a fake Arizona driver’s license with conflicting personal information. The thief eventually fessed up, claiming to be part of a larger theft ring operated by the person who supplied the fake license. The store declined to press charges for the theft of the wallets. Julie Renee Wareberry, 44, was arrested on a charge of tampering with a government record.

Between 4:30 and 6:40 p.m., a burglar broke into a silver 2012 Nissan pickup at NorthPark Center and stole a $1,500 gold bracelet and a $300 Sony camera.

Between 7:15 and 9 p.m., a burglar broke into a silver 2011 Hyundai hatchback at a restaurant in the 7800 block of Park Lane and stole a $100 Coach wallet, $21 in cash, and a $6 purse.

9 FRIDAY
At 3:05 a.m., a vandal kicked and tossed a rock through the glass door of the Metro PCS store at Preston Center, causing $1,500 in damage.

At 1:40 p.m., a thief stole a $250 Dolmar trimmer from a driveway in the 4700 block of Lindhurst Avenue.

At 2:20 p.m., two shoplifters stole three bottles of cologne, valued at $225, and a $39 pair of boxer shorts from Macy’s at NorthPark Center. Monique Leanette Bufford, 31, and Moneshia Chantelle Lane, 25, each were arrested on a theft charge.

At 3 p.m., a shoplifter stole $239 worth of cologne, two shirts valued at $70, and a $20 ring from Macy’s at NorthPark Center. Kearra Lynae Moore, 26, was arrested on a theft charge.

At 8:40 p.m., a shoplifter stole a $150 Bose Bluetooth headset from the Apple store at NorthPark Center. Tania Posadas, 37, was arrested on a theft charge.
At 11:19 p.m., a man reported the theft of his wife’s $700 iPhone 5S by a pickpocket while shopping at NorthPark Center earlier that day. The thief called the man’s sister-in-law from the phone but didn’t say anything. It was traced to an address in Oak Cliff.

10 SATURDAY
At 12:45 p.m., a shopper at NorthPark Center left a purse to be watched briefly by an 8-year-old child. When the kid wandered off for a moment, so did the purse. The $200 bag contained a $300 iPhone, a $200 car key, a $60 wallet, a $50 gift card, $40 in cash, and four bank cards.

At 3:06 p.m., a burglar broke into a black 2003 Lexus sedan in the 8200 block of Ridgelea Street and stole a $700 iPhone 5, a $20 bag, and $10 worth of coins.

At 4:10 p.m., a thief stole a $600 iPhone 5S from a patron at Studio 6 Fitness at Preston Forest Square.

At 5:20 p.m., a shoplifter stole $97 worth of hair-care products from the Tom Thumb store in the Lincoln Park shopping center. Fabiola Ramon Rivera, 38, was arrested on a theft charge.

At 8:25 p.m., a shoplifter wheeled a cart containing $192 worth of meat, $21 in assorted grocery items, and a $3 gallon of reduced-fat milk out of the Tom Thumb store in the Lincoln Park shopping center. Eric North Townsel, 47, was arrested on a theft charge.

Between 8 and 8:35 p.m., a thief stole a black 2006 Chevrolet pickup with 26-inch rims, valued at $12,000, at NorthPark Center.

11 SUNDAY
At 8:30 a.m., a burglar broke into The Carlisle School in the 4700 block of West Lovers Lane and stole two window-mounted air conditioning units with a combined value of $800, along with a $500 flat-screen television.

Between 3 and 9 a.m., a burglar broke into a house in the 9000 block of Boedeker Street and stole a $1,500 Macbook Pro laptop computer, a $300 iPhone 4S, and $100 worth of alcohol.

Between 5 and 11 a.m., a burglar broke into a silver 2000 Chevrolet hatchback at a retirement facility in the 5500 block of Harvest Hill Road and stole a $200 iPad and a $30 purse.

Between 11 a.m. and noon, a burglar broke into a white 2011 Ford hatchback at Embassy Suites in the 3800 block of West Northwest Highway and stole a $2,000 Macbook laptop computer, a $100 hard drive, and a $100 briefcase.

Between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., a thief stole a wallet from a woman’s purse at Unity Church of Dallas in the 6500 block of Forest Lane.

Between 4:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., a vandal caused $420 in damage by breaking an iron mailbox, a window pane, and a potted plant at a house in the 4400 block of Taos Road.

Between 4:30 p.m. on May 10 and 8 p.m. on May 11, a burglar broke into a vacant house in the 4500 block of Irvin Simmons Drive and stole a $300 Club Cadet lawnmower and $100 worth of landscaping tools.

At 8:15 p.m., a thief stole two Stihl trimmers, with a combined value of $200, from an open garage in the 7300 block of Inglecliff Drive.

12 MONDAY
Between 11:30 p.m. on May 10 and 7 a.m. on May 12, a thief stole a $35 Coach wristlet from a house in the 5900 block of Desco Drive.
