Developer Seeks Parking Exception Near SMU

The developer who has plans for the north side of SMU Boulevard wants to have fewer parking spaces than called for by Dallas regulations. The folks at City Hall are recommending that the developer’s request be denied, but the decision lies with the Board of Adjustment. If you have some thoughts on the matter, the public hearing begins at 1 o’clock tomorrow afternoon.

We rarely go over there because there is so little parking already. Developers always want to skimp on parking. Why not just man up and pay for what is required?

The primary patrons of this restaurant will likely be SMU students who will walk…waive the parking requirement instead of having drunk college kids drive elsewhere. Why is common sense so uncommon?

It ain’t the UP Council, it’s the Dallas Council and Dallas BOA and if you think SMU kids are going to walk any further than from the bar to the john, then it’s you who has no common sense. “The primary patrons etc. etc.” This is the same old smoke and mirrors developers use to get around parking requirements. It’s like saying hey, there’s a bus stop nearby, so maybe someone will arrive by public transit. Take another parking space off the list!
