Highland Park Sports in Full Swing This Weekend
From the standpoint of athletics, the school year is officially upon us this weekend.
Between now and the end of the day Saturday, Highland Park’s football, volleyball, tennis, and cross country teams will all be in action.
The football team will host Plano West in a scrimmage at 7 tonight at Highlander Stadium. The Scots will then host a clinic for students in grades second through fifth from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Multi-Purpose Activities Center. The cost is $25 per student. Proceeds will go to the Gridiron Heroes, an organization that helps players permanently injured in football accidents.
The volleyball team is playing in the Byron Nelson Tournament this weekend. The red-hot Lady Scots swept all three matches against Saginaw, Hereford, and Mansfield Legacy in Thursday’s opening round to improve to 11-2 on the season. Highland Park is ranked No. 2 in the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s Class 4A state poll.
Highland Park’s tennis team also got its season started this morning. The Scots, who have won five straight state titles and nine of the last 10, are co-hosting an invitational through Saturday with Plano West.
Finally, the cross country teams will get the season started at Saturday’s Greenhill 6-Mile Relay. The races begin at 8:30 a.m. The Lady Scots have won the last three Class 4A state titles, while the Running Scots are coming off a fourth-place finish at state.
