Last Friday was one of the best days of the year for Texas football fans. Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, the bible of high school, college, and pro football in the Lone Star State, hit newsstands.

The annual publication, which started in 1960, previews every team in Texas.

In District 9-5A, the magazine has Jesuit finishing third and W.T. White seventh. The Rangers are coming off a 9-3 season, but Jesuit lost a ton of talent to graduation, including one of the top receivers in state history in Jake Oliver. Jesuit will have six starters back, while the Longhorns, who finished 2-8 last season, will return 12 starters.

In District 12-4A, Dave Campbell‘s has Hillcrest finishing fifth and Thomas Jefferson picked eighth. The Panthers have 12 starters back from last year’s 5-5 squad, while the Patriots have 15 starters returning from last year’s 1-9 squad.

Moving over to the private schools, the publication has Parish Episcopal picked second in TAPPS Division II District 2. Dallas Christian is picked to win the district, while Shelton is picked seventh. The Panthers have 10 starters back from last year’s 10-2 team. In the Southwest Preparatory Conference North Division, St. Mark’s is picked second, Episcopal School of Dallas fourth, and Greenhill eighth.

The Lions have 10 starters back from last year’s 7-2 team. The Eagles return 20 starters from last year’s 3-6 team. And the Hornets, who have a new head coach in Ralph Dintino, are coming off an 0-9 season. Their returning starters were not listed in the magazine.

Lutheran is picked fourth in TAPPS Division III District 3.

In TAPPS Six-Man Division II, defending state champion Covenant is picked to win the district. Covenant should have a very good chance to repeat as state champs with nine starters back.
