Mockingbird Pedestrian Bridge Breaks Ground Tuesday

City Councilwoman Angela Hunt will lead the groundbreaking ceremony for the Mockingbird Pedestrian Bridge at 10 a.m. next Tuesday. The bridge will connect the Katy Trail to the White Rock Mockingbird DART Station, and the groundbreaking will take place at the Residences at the Hotel Palomar. Bonus: there’s complimentary valet. So drive over to celebrate more opportunities for pedestrianism. See what I did there?

All the way to White Rock? That’s one long bridge.

A 4 mile bridge? Wow! Wonder what the budget was on that thing.

The original press release from the city said “White Rock.” A second was sent with the “Mockingbird” correction.

Clearly I’m missing something, but how does the Katy Trail get across to the east side of Central in the first place, to take advantage of this proposed bridge across Mockingbird? I thought the trail pretty much stopped on the west side, at Airline.

The trail will cross the McCommas overpass (really just a sidewalk at that point) then head north to the railroad right of way that runs behind the Palomar.
