SMU to Honor Blackie Holmes as Distinguished Alum

SMU will host its annual Distinguished Alumni Awards ceremony a week from today, and former University Park Mayor James “Blackie” Holmes is among the honorees. Holmes earned two degrees on the Hilltop: a B.B.A. in 1957 and an L.L.B. in 1959. He was mayor from 2004 to 2010, and the Curtis Park pool was subsequently renamed the Holmes Aquatic Center in his honor. I’ll leave it to the fine folks in the SMU communications office to tell you more.

All 3 recipients including Jeanne Tower Cox and Paul Loyd are residents in the Park Cities though Loyd only lives in Dallas part time.

They should distinguish him. He did every single thing they instructed him to do while he was mayor of SMUniversity Park.

Why? He was a sucky mayor who tried to impose HIS (not the voter’s) will on the community. He’s part of the reason I sold and moved into HP. Much better governance there……
