Toll Authority Scofflaws Include No Park Cities Residents. Maybe.

When the North Texas Tollway Authority announced a while back that they were going to release the names, towns, and total money owed by toll scofflaws, I yipped. Out loud.

This is the kind of list that makes reporters salivate. They’re easy to comb through, easy to sort, and make fun stories.

“Oh, look, UP Mayor Dick Davis owes $678 in tolls. And Troy Aikman owes $8,000!”

So I scanned the 751-page list this morning, searching for the word “Park.” Eighty-one results. I was excited. Then I sifted past Sparkle Calhoun — who owes $50,169.40 — and all the Cedar Park residents. I got to the bottom of the list. No Park Cities residents.

Hmm.

Two theories:

1. Highland Park and University Park residents are so law-abiding that every car they own has a toll tag. (Our weekly police blotter suggests otherwise.)

2. The tollway authority lumped all Park Cities residents under the “Dallas” heading, which DCAD does as well sometimes. This seems more plausible, since when I searched “75205,” I got 30 results.

So. My plan to out some of you didn’t work, but I’m sure you’ll do a good enough job nabbing your neighbors. Again, here’s the list.

(Side note: Amber Young, who lives in Far North Dallas, owes $179,596.43, and has blown through nearly 8,400 tolls. She’s your winner, or whatever you want to call it.)

$179,596? So, why hasn’t she been arrested for theft before now? How about impounding her car? I guessing she doesn’t have car insurance either. Speaking of not having car insurance, how many cars have been impounded by the HP police since they announced the “Impound for lack of insurance” policy?

Park Cities residents might also have Dallas office addresses and have all their mail and billing sent there.

The PDF is searchable by zip code. Right click on the document and choose “Show Navigation Pane Buttons” then click on the binoculars that will have appeared to search on a zip code. There are a couple dozen or so 75205 records. Use the Central Appraisal database at http://www.decad.org to look up the whereabouts of any property owner. A quick sample suggests that most of the scofflaws are transient. However, there are a number of homeowners that came up on the 10 or so that I picked: Charles R Barnett at 4549 Belfort owes > $10 K as an easily matchable example. Jason Dommer at 4598 Rheims Place and Brownie Tuley at 4301 University also appear on the list.

Amber Young actually owes only 43 cents but the NTTA has tacked on $179,596.00 worth of administrative fees.
