Newspaper Approaches Legendary Status

I’d like to congratulate art director Rick Lopez and online creative director Valerie Wong, who have won the Best Front Page award from the Local Media Association, formerly known as Suburban Newspapers of America. Valerie designed the page anchored by the story about Randy Allen’s coaching record, and Rick designed the other two.

Meanwhile, managing editor Dan Koller won the Best Headline award for his work in Preston Hollow People, for the second year in a row. This year’s victory is for “This Neighborhood Rules,” which went with a story about three straight mayoral elections being won by Preston Hollow residents.

Dan also finished third in the Local Media Association’s Editor of the Year Contest, but he wanted us to downplay that. In fact, he quoted Ricky Bobby: “If you ain’t first, you’re last.”
