Just When You Think You’re Safe at Barnes and Noble
Freelance writer Sarah Hepola was just enjoying some Gloria Steinem at the Northwest Highway Barnes and Noble when, out of nowhere, a man started masturbating next to her.
For the whole disturbing story, check out Sarah’s post about it. Seems like Barnes and Noble handled this pretty well, but yeeeeeesh. Sorry Sarah.

Should I not have done that? Was that wrong?
That ïs so disturbing-and disgusting. Poor Sarah.
A few years ago a man (about the same, vague description) sat down at the same table as me in the cafe of the NW Hwy Barnes & Noble. After reading for a little while he began to rub his foot along my leg. I left & reported him to store employees as well.
Obviously, there’s no way to know if it’s the same man years later (and bolder!), but this Sarah’s experience might not be an isolated incident.
What am I missing here? The story says he was in the “Women’s Studies” section, right? Sounds like he was intently studying a woman. If he’d been caught badgering the witness in, say, “Reference,” now that would be weird.
iam sorry to hear that thats terrible
I witnessed something similar at the UNT computer lab…you aren’t supposed to view any controversial material on the computers in the lab, but one guy seemed to be quickly viewing a lot of naughty photos…it wasn’t long before i noticed he was repeatedly rubbing himself through his jeans. I guess i should be relieved he at least kept it in his pants…some people really do have a sad existence.
