The Best (And Worst) Apps For The Hollow

If you have a smart phone, getting around Preston Hollow just got easier. Here is my review of apps to help you through our Hollow.

Dallas Cowboys Football Live ($2.99)

Cowboys news, roster, schedules, scores, and twitter messages

  • Pros: Perfect if you are away from the television during a big game
  • Con: It’s $3, but you could probably ask the guy sitting next to you for the details.
  • Verdict: A necessity for tried-and-true fans who cannot go without the latest updates

Dallas Morning News App (free)

Local and global news, sports updates (Mavericks, Cowboys, Rangers, Stars), weather, traffic, reviews, and lifestyle

  • Pros: Quick and easy access to Dallas Morning News stories
  • Cons: While the app is free, almost all articles require you to pay and subscribe.
  • Verdict: Great source of mobile news, but do not think you can get away without paying.

Dallas Public Library (free)

Find books, CDs, and DVDs at the library, as well as book reviews and branch locations

  • Pros: Easy to use; book reviews are very beneficial.
  • Cons: None
  • Verdict: A must-have for Dallas Public Library junkies

DART Time Table (Dallas) ($0.99)

Info on DART stations, arrivals and departure times, routes

  • Pros: A way to double-check train lines and information
  • Cons: Some data can be inaccurate and unreliable.
  • Verdict: For those who use DART to get around, it is a great app to have to double check the schedule, but do not rely on it as your only source of info.

Dallas Zoo (free)

Zoo hours, admissions, directions, parking, contacts, events, map

  • Pros: Improves your zoo experience
  • Cons: None
  • Verdict: A definite download for anyone making a trip to the zoo

I Heart Radio (free)

Access to hundreds of radio stations both local and nationwide; also a feature to customize your music

  • Pros: A perfect way to switch up your music selections
  • Cons: The app can get annoying for non-Facebookers because of the many connections and links to the site.
  • Verdict: A nice way to change up your music routine if you don’t mind constant Facebook invasions

Traffic Dallas (free)

A view of Dallas intersections to see the traffic on your route

  • Pros: A quick way to find the best, traffic-free route
  • Cons: It temps users to look at their phone while driving.
  • Verdict: Saves time and helps you avoid traffic, but remember to use the app before you get on the road.
