When Church Lets Out, Traffic Must Stop
I happened to drive by Highland Park United Methodist Church at noon on Sunday, just as services were ending. The state trooper stopping traffic on Hillcrest so parishioners could cross the street did not strike me as out of the ordinary. What did strike me as odd was the guy in a non-descript uniform (HP DPS? Private security? I can’t say) who was standing on the corner of Mockingbird and Abbott. He looked odd because there was a curly cord running from his jacket to an electrical box on the light pole. My wife theorized that he was controlling the traffic lights, making the Mockingbird drivers stop whenever a gaggle of churchgoers needed to cross. What power!
Isn’t HP Methodist where the Bush’s go to worship. That could be Secret Service personnel. I have seen them in the park cities before.
You are correct in your assumption that he is controlling traffic light at Abbott/Mockingbird
Dan, there has been someone there controlling that light on Sundays for over thirty years. Guess you don’t take that route very often.
There’s a first time for everything, Jim.
An SMU police officer controls that light at Mockingbird and Abbott.
Not true @Billbob. Last Sunday the officer on that corner was from DeSota which HPUMC pays. I have never seen an SMU officer there and I have been a member for 59 years!
