Do You Know This Cycling Family?

A reader sent me this picture of a man and two children on a three-seater bike. The reader said he often sees them in the morning as he drives east on Beverly. (In this photo, the trio was westbound on Beverly, making a right at Preston.) The reader is wondering if this is the family’s daily method of getting to school, and if so, which school? “I wish had this dude’s energy,” the reader said. “I have no idea who is he, but I’m impressed!”

That picture is of me and my two children on our way to Providence and Westminster Preschool. It’s a 10 mile round trip and we try to make it 3 or 4 times a week. Next year I’m going to be pulling a trailer with our 2 year old on her way to Mother’s Day Out at Westminster Presbyterian.
Believe it or not it take 20 minutes to drive to school and only 25 minutes to ride to school. Why not take the way that produces no green house gases (other than my CO2 emissions) and is an absolute blast?!?!

So great to see this! My husband commutes to work at his veterinary practice via bike every day, and he’s looking forward to taking our 3-month old twins around White Rock in a trailer. Maybe when they’re bigger he’ll be inspired to drop them off at school on the way to work, too!

Cool special interest story…except the part where the dad and kids on the bike were getting stalked. That’s not just creepy; it took an irresponsible idiot to stalk them with the phone camera, post their picture, describe their routine (with the kids), location and direction of travel.

Dan, are you kidding? Who the hell are you to do that to a family with small kids? In this case it turns out that Mr. Adams wasn’t concerned, but use your brain (and any small amount self respect that you might posess) next time.

Encourage your husband Amy. For years I’ve had a double wide trailer and biked around the lake with the two oldest girls. I started around month 4 or 5 when they could hold their heads up unsupported. I’ve had friends who started much later and complained that their kids didn’t enjoy it. My kids have never known anything different than spending a hour or so with their dad in the morning and they love it!
People have been asking me where I got our triple. Richardson Bike Mart over on Garland Rd. (214-321-0705) is the only place in town that sells Co-Motion bikes. It’s a custom order and takes a couple of months but is well worth the wait!!
