Rise and Shine, Park Cities (02-28-11)

After a two week hiatus I’m glad to be back but my return post was just interrupted by my daughter calling from first period athletics to say she forgot jeans. Can’t use tough love on this one and tell her to suffer the consequences, you know. So before I go on the jean run, consider this.

1. Today is the last day of the short month of February. If your birthday is 2/29, no party for you until next year.

2. Highland Park Dance Company’s founder and former Highland Belle, Casey Castellaw, is smiling pretty big today. She took 4 teams to Kilgore this weekend for the Gussie Nell Davis Dance Classic competition and in addition to a bajillion other trophies, the white team walked away with 1st place overall, silver team scored 6th place overall. Congratulations to Casey and to all 4 teams.

3. Get your number 2 pencils sharpened and pack a lunch, tomorrow is the TAKS writing test for some grades. Do we like this TAKS thing?

If you’re really wanting the tough love route, Bohac will let her find something (probably sweatpants) in the lost and found to wear. Definitely won’t happen again after wear L&F clothes for a day.

@B- That’s beautiful. I can’t think of any worse torture for her. Since I didn’t get that advice until too late, that’s the threat for next time. And I’ll talk to Bohac about keeping some extra ugly sweats on hand.

Oh we definitely do the lost and found thing. It nips it in the bud pretty quickly.

And we don’t do forgotten homework or books either. Too bad, so sad.

    Welcome back, you were missed!

TAKS in general is eye rollingly easy for most of our kids, my kid thinks of it as a day off – no homework, woohoo! The writing is the only one that causes any stress in most kids, as they don’t like the iffyness of the grading. It’s the only thing I hear the kids crab about TAKS, the writing and that they can’t count on the easy 100% correct they can get on the other tests.

The lost and found thing is brilliant for a girl, my son wouldn’t care in the least wearing something out of lost & found, unless it was a dress. Or soaked in flowery perfume…….that’s a thought.

Re: TASK … yes hp mom I wish I could, too! I don’t think people know or realize that teachers have been tutoring kids deemed “at risk” two and three days a week after or before school in small groups since January. I have one child who always makes 100% and another who just passes. It amazes me how they say she doesn’t qualify for Jumpstart …. but then they are always worried to death she will fail the TASK and we finally get help instead of me paying tutors for everything!

Glad you’re back. It’s coming up on my favorite time of the year – HPHS Cheerleading tryouts. Can you make sure you stay on top of all of drama and keep us informed of any potential lawsuits by unhappy parents and other attempts to keep their DD’s (darling daughters) lives from being forever ruined if they don’t make the squad?
