1. Under normal circumstances, you can play ice hockey or you can play street hockey, but not both at the same. However, the bizarre circumstances of this week allowed a group of boys to play ice hockey, in skates, on St. Johns Drive. As proud papa Larry Makel put it, “It is a once-in-a-lifetime event.” Unfortunately, those boys will need a Zamboni machine to continue their game today. Got a cool weather photo of your own? Send it to editor@peoplenewspapers.com.

2. As Mr. Makel and other parents are well aware, today is the fourth straight day that schools are closed due to weather. The Highland Park ISD calendar includes only two bad-weather makeup days. Will two more days be added to the school year? I’m sure we’ll know by the time Tuesday’s Board of Trustees meeting is over.

3. OK, enough about this inclement weather. Eventually, all of this white stuff will melt and we’ll be able to get on with our lives. Let’s all turn to the “Park Cities Planner” in today’s paper and see what’s coming up. Oh, look: The kids at Highland Park Middle School are going to put on a play in a couple of weeks … Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
