ESPN to Highlight SMU’s Sordid Past
ESPN has long had plans to air Pony Excess, its “30 For 30” documentary about SMU and the death penalty, this Saturday night, immediately following the Heisman Trophy presentation. But those plans were made before a pay-for-play scandal erupted around Heisman front-runner Cam Newton. The circumstances should make for some awkward transitions between promos for the film and the live Heisman broadcast.
