My E-Mail to Mr. Bohac at Highland Park Middle School

Ever press send because you know you have to but it really makes you reevaluate everything in your life. Yeah, well, that happened to me  just a minute ago.

Mr. Bohac,

I am writing a piece about the HPMS dress code and I’d like to see if we can get a measurement of the width of two of your fingers. If you are willing, it will accompany the following:

The dress code for 7thgrade is very clear. One of the guidelines states specifically that tank tops are not permitted. So why does every female student give this line, “I know it says that but it just means the strap can’t be less than two Bohac fingers wide.”

    OMG…you got brass ones, Merritt! Can’t wait for his response. Our Bubble-liscious world would be alot less interesting without you around to ask the hard questions!

    Merritt, if it’s any comfort, Coach Bohac is probably even more embarrassed than you are.

    Why does Hunt Oil have a South Korea flag outside it’s buidling?

    @Lee Harvey, I took a tour of the building shortly after it opened and learned Hunt Oil typically flies three flags: the American flag, Texas flag and City of Dallas flag. On days when they host international visitors to their building, they bump the City flag and fly the flag of said visitors’ home country.

    As a former player under Coach Bohac, his fingers always looked huge when he’d grab me by the facemask for what was known in HP as a “Donkey Barbeque”…

    I think the concept is that a top w/ shoulder straps that wide is not a “tank top” but is a sleeveless top…

    Not saying that I agree or don’t – my kids are out of the middle school anyway… but I do think that’s the concept.

    @Avid Reader- the response:
    Merritt:

    Thanks for helping us clarify the dress code. Here is the link to the HPMS dress code: http://hpms.hpisd.org/Default.aspx?tabid=1577

    There is not a “two finger” width rule; the dress code states that tank tops are not allowed at all. We are trying to avoid situations where our students are creating a distraction by the way they are dressed. One of the issues in regard to this is spaghetti strap blouses, more so than tank tops. The other dress code issue we are trying to address is the length of shorts and skirts. Sometimes we have to use our best judgment with these issues, and we have to reserve our right to “make the call” when a student is wearing something questionable.

    Hope this helps to clarify things.

    Sincerely,
    Richard Bohac

    I’d still like the exact width.
