HPHS Principal Cates to Retire

The Highland Park ISD announced this morning that Patrick Cates, principal of Highland Park High School since 2002, is retiring. Cates already has an answer to the question of what he will do with his time.

“I plan to spend one year reading,” he said in the district’s news release. “My wife, Deb, who retired several years ago, shares my love of literature and learning, and we will be reading contemporary literature, rereading the classics, and even indulging in some pop-culture books. We also plan to do lots of traveling and spending time with friends and family.”

Mr. Cates was my Drama teacher at Lubbock High from 77-80 and then became the Principal later on, he was the best thing to happen to LHS and I was made a better person for having him as a teacher. I wish him and his family the very best of everything and God Bless.
