Van Cauwelaert Leads Blue Wave at TISCA

Felix Van Cauwelaert helped Highland Park win two bronze medals at the prestigious TISCA 6A North Zone Invitational meet on Saturday in Lewisville.

Van Cauwelaert, a junior, took third place individually in the 200 freestyle with a personal best time of 1 minute, 39.60 seconds. He also came in fourth in the 100 backstroke, and was part of a quartet that broke a school record in the 200 medley relay, along with Henry Wang, Ethan Nguyen, and Tommy King. The Blue Wave placed third in 1:36.70.

The meet included about 90 teams, mostly at the Class 6A level. HP secured a ninth-place finish in the team standings.

On Thursday, HP warmed up with a strong performance against four schools from Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD. In that meet, individual winners for the Blue Wave included Morgan Rehme (girls 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle), Christina Bambach (girls 200 individual medley), Claire Kornman (girls 500 freestyle), Van Cauwelaert (boys 200 IM, 100 breaststroke), Peter Paulus (boys 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke), and T.J. Spackman (100 freestyle).

The Blue Wave will return to the pool on Nov. 29 with a dual meet at Frisco.
